Ready, Set, Go: The Morning Scramble
No matter how many alarms are set, mornings always feel like a mad dash around here. Getting breakfast together can feel nearly impossible—and I know I’m not alone in this. Whether you’re trying to drag little ones out of bed or squeezing in one last task before traffic hits, it’s no wonder bagels and cereal end up being the go-to.
But as my patients often hear me say: “Where’s the protein?”
So how do we shift to a protein-packed breakfast that’s quick, easy, and even commuter-friendly?
Here are a few simple options to keep in mind:
Eggs (scrambled, boiled, baked—you name it)
Greek yogurt
Cottage cheese
Turkey sausage
Smoothies (just watch the sugar)
Eggs are my go-to for my bestie. I make her a few most mornings—even if the pan stays on the stove until I get home later. That’s life, and I’ve learned to let it be. But recently, while visiting a friend, I spotted a countertop egg maker and remembered: prepping in advance really is a game changer.
Whether it’s baking egg bites, assembling an egg casserole, or just boiling up a whole carton—having ready-to-go eggs in the fridge makes breakfast a breeze.
As for me? I usually go for Greek yogurt or cottage cheese. They’re quick, easy, and satisfying.
Here’s an example: I had a frozen chia bowl from Trader Joe’s (delicious but no protein), so I topped it with low-sugar Greek yogurt and added two eggs on the side. Boom—26 grams of protein and 9 grams of fiber to start my day strong!
Other quick ideas:
Microwave turkey sausage with hard-boiled eggs or string cheese
Sliced apple and cheese with a hard-boiled egg
Protein waffle with warmed frozen fruit and a scoop of Greek yogurt
And as promised—here’s a little “food-free” fun this weekend, courtesy of Scott:
Somerville, MA is hosting their annual PorchFest—a neighborhood-wide music celebration! Check it out online (there’s a map of the bands).
If you're not local, look around for outdoor music or art events near you—there’s a good chance something’s happening with all the college graduations and spring festivals going on.
